Stargate Universe Eli Wallace Character Analysis: Overview

Stargate Universe’s Eli Wallace, played by David Blue, is a young man with a brilliant mind but a lazy attitude. He is basically intended to serve as the entry way character for new viewers of the series as he is new to the Stargate governmental program.

Stargate Universe Eli Wallace Character Analysis: Overview

Eli is basically a lazy, underachieving video gamer and Michigan Institute of Technology (MIT) drop out. He basically spends his time playing video games and eating junk food while living with his mother and searching for employment. Despite his tendency to be lazy, he possesses a sharp mind with a particular aptitude to mathematics. His mother is ill with HIV and it is suggested that he feels guilty about not being to help out with payment for medical treatments, which was part of the reason he accepted joining the Stargate program.

Stargate Universe Eli Wallace Character Analysis: Personality

Underneath Eli Wallace’s sloth-like exterior personality is a curious and caring person, with more self-motivation than may be expected. Arguably, his tendency to be lazy is a defence mechanism to prevent him from failing or being caught with more work than he has time to handle. Eli also has a slightly voyeuristic side to his personality, no surprise that he was first to find the ‘Kinos’.

Stargate Universe Eli Wallace Character Analysis: Relationships

With His Mother:

Eli seems to have a strong relationship with his mother, though perhaps she is nagging at times. He cares a lot about her, with the Stargate program’s promise to pay her medical expenses a large part in his decision to join it. He is able to go back to visit her, albeit in a different body, and seems very concerned with how she is going. Basically, he has a general mother-son relationship with her.

Camille Wray:

Eli has a positive relationship with Camille, but overall he does not interact with her particularly much. However, he was willing to give her information that he knew would counter-act rush.

Chloe Armstrong:

Chloe is Eli’s main love interest aboard the ship, the two of them being fairly similar in age but quite different in personality. When stranded on a jungle planet and facing imminent death, he professed his love for her.

Colonel Everett Young:

Eli has a fairly strong relationship with Everett Young, but it is clear that Young is the one in charge out of the two. Young basically gets Eli to keep watch on Rush for him, which could very well cause problems later as it is akin to using him.

Matthew Scott:

Matthew and Eli have something of a friendship due to them both feeling overwhelmed by the situation but handling it in a similar internal manner. However, Matthew’s relationship with Chloe will very probably cause problems between the two later.

Dr. Nicholas Rush:

It is hard to speculate on Eli’s feelings concerning Rush as Eli seems to occasionally undermine Rush’s scheming but also talks with him on a fairly friendly level. Rush seems to have respect for Eli, but perhaps a little caution as Eli may become a thorn in his side with some more understanding of the ship and its significance.

Ronald Greer:

Eli and Greer have a non-existent relationship, no doubt because Eli simply stays out of Greer’s way.

Tamara Johansen:

Tamara and Eli do not particular interact with one another as Eli has not been particularly injured so has had no need to see the ranking medical officer.
